What is Mystery Babylon the Great – Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth?

In order to understand what Mystery Babylon is, let’s first compile a list of everything that the Bible teaches about Mystery Babylon:

  • She is called “the great harlot who sits on many waters” – Revelation 17:1
    • The term “harlot” is used in the Old Testament to describe sinful nations and cities – especially the sin of idolatry – 2Chronicles 21:11-13, Jeremiah 3:6-13, Ezekiel 16:20, Isaiah 1:21, Hosea 1:2
    • She has a name written on her forehead, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” – Revelation 17:5
    • She is described as “a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird” – Revelation 18:2
    • “…the kings of the earth committed fornication” with her – Revelation 17:2, Revelation 18:3
    • “…the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury” – Revelation 18:3
      • Her “merchants were the great men of the earth” – Revelation 18:23
      • Her “merchandise [was] of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble, and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men” – Revelation 18:12-13

Pope sitting on throne between two cherubim – Psalm 99:1

She is also described as “a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns” – Revelation 17:3

    • The beast that she rides is the prince, through whom she rules over the kings of the world, which are the horns on the head of the beast (Revelation 17:12).
    • He obeys her. Therefore, she is riding on top of him.
    • He is red because he belongs to her. As opposed to the beast of Revelation Ch. 13, which is not described as scarlet, because Rome is no longer around to ride him, and restrain him. – Revelation 17:3, 2Thessalonians 2:1-12, Revelation 13:1-10
    • He is full of names of blasphemy, because he is an anti-Christ, claiming to reign in place of Jesus Christ, and calling himself “the vicar of Christ” [which means anti-Christ in Latin], “the pope/papa” (Matthew 23:9), “the holy father”(John 17:11) …etc.

The woman = Rome, The Cup = Catholicism, The Beast = The Pope, The Horns = The Kings of the Earth
  • She is described as “…arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls…” – Revelation 17:4
    • The colors purple and scarlet are associated with honor, wealth, authority, and royalty – 2Samuel 1:24, Nahum 2:3, Matthew 27:28, Esther 8:15, Daniel 5-29, John 19:1-2
    • Scarlet and purple are also the ancient colors of Rome, and still are to this day. These colors are still worn by the cardinals of Rome when they formally gather at the Vatican.
  • She has “…in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication” – Revelation 17:4
    • “…the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication” – Revelation 17:2
“…all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication…” – Revelation 18:3
Her harlotry was made law, and killed many who would not submit to it.
    • Her golden cup is her religion, which is also the civil law of her kingdom.scarletpurple
      • The cup is a religion, because it is full of abominations, and the filthiness of her harlotry. The terms “harlotry” and “abominations” are used to describe sinful behavior – especially idolatry. – Deuteronomy 7:25-26, Deuteronomy 12:31
      • Therefore, the religion of Mystery Babylon is full of idolatry.
      • The religion is Roman Catholicism, and it is built on the worship of idols, such as Mary, whom they call the “Queen of Heaven” (Jeremiah 7:16-20, 44:15-23), “the saints”, and false Christs.
        • Catholicism’s cornerstone ritual is the mass, which claims to crucify popef-800x500Christ afresh in order to atone for the sins of their followers, by making the bread and wine transform into the literal body and blood of Christ, which the people must eat and drink in order to be saved.
          • This is ritual is a continual creation, and sacrifice, of a false god, because Jesus has nothing to do with this sacrifice, because the people who crucifies Jesus afresh are the kind of people who cannot be restored to repentance, and are destined to suffer his eternal, fiery, indignation. – Hebrews 6:4-8
    • All nations were led astray by her sorcery – Revelation 18:23
      • She will lead the whole world astray.
      • Her false religion, and ability to deceive, has led people astray from all over the world.
      • She is “…drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus…” – Revelation 17:6
        • The Great Harlot has deceived her followers into believing that they inquisition2were doing service to God when they killed Christians, who refused to participate in her religion. Over fifty million people who classify themselves as Christians have been killed by her deceived followers.
        • “…in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth” – Revelation 18:24
          • The Great Harlot is guilty of shedding the blood of many believers, going all the way back to the first century. That is how she became drunk with the blood of the saints. This is also why God will avenge the blood of his apostles and prophets on her, because she is the one who killed them (Revelation 18:20). She is their ancient enemy, who subjected Christians to many forms of tortures and slow painful deaths.
  • “…her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities” – Revelation 18:5, Luke 18:7-8, Revelation 6:9-11, Revelation 14:8, Revelation 16:17-19
  • “…the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns” is listed below: – Revelation 17:8-18, Revelation Ch. 18
    • “…the beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is” – Revelation 17:8, Revelation 13:1-10, 2Thessalonians 2:1-12
      • The beast is the prince, to come, of the people of Rome, who destroyed Jerusalem, and its temple, in 70AD. – Daniel 9:26-27, Matthew 24:1-2
        • The prince of the people is a pope.
        • He will deceive the whole world by appearing to rise from the dead as Christ rose from the dead. – Revelation 13:1-10
    • “The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits” – Revelation 17:9
    • “There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time”. In order to understand who these kings are, the heads of the beasts, in Daniel chapter seven, must be counted, and idenitfied. – Daniel Ch. 7, Revelation 17:10

1 Babylon 2 Persia 3 Greece 4 The Beast of Rome

      • The five fallen kings, according to the book of Daniel, in chapter seven, are Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the for successors of Alexander the Great, of Greece: Cassander, Ptolemy, Antigonus, and Seleucus, because the Greek empire has fallen to Rome, and the kingdom of Babylon has fallen to Persia.
      • The king that still remains is the king of Persia, because the Persian empire is still standing during the first century when the book of Revelation was written.
      • And the seventh is the Pope, who must reign for a short time after Papal Rome is destroyed, because Rome, the Great Harlot, is his “restrainer” (2Thessalonians 2:1-12, Revelation 17:12-17).
    • “The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition” – Revelation 17:11, Daniel 7:7-8, 11, 19-27
      • The Pope is an eighth, and is of the seven kings, because he is the same king who is currently restrained by the Harlot until she is taken out of the way for him to do as he pleases until he is destroyed. – Daniel 11:21-45, 2Thessalonians 2:1-12, Revelation Ch. 13, Revelation 16:12-16, Revelation 19:11-21
    • “…the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth” – Revelation 17:18
      • The woman is the city known as Rome.
      • She will become so great that she rules over the whole world.
        • “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues” – Revelation 17:15
    • “The ten horns which you saw [on the beast] are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast” – Revelation 17:12
      • “These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast” – Revelation 17:13
      • “…the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled” – Revelation 17:16-17
        • God commands the church to come out of her, and to “repay her double according to her works”, just as the prophets, of old, destroyed wicked kingdoms through their prophecies – Revelation 17:4-7, Jeremiah 1:9-10, Jeremiah 51:59-64, Ezekiel 43:3
          • “Therefore her plagues will come in one day – death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her” – Revelation 17:8, Revelation 17:16-17
          • God’s apostles and prophets are told to rejoice over her destruction, because God has judged her on their behalf – Revelation 18:20, Matthew 18:6-7, 10-11
          • The kings of the earth, merchants, captains, and sailors will mourn over her destruction, because they were made rich through the abundance of her trading – Revelation 18:9-19
          • “with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore” – Revelation 18:21-23
          • After the tribulation “…great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath” by splitting the city into three parts, in what would be known as the greatest earthquake in human history – Revelation 16:17-19
